Founded in 2003, Skyline is one of the most renowned jazz bands in the Mandarin music scene that has consistently embraced jazz fusion style. It is also the only jazz fusion band with over 20 years of history. Its music covers genres from Jazz, Pop, Funk, Rock, R&B, Soul, Latin, Electronic to Classical and World Music. Embracing influences from Jazz music in U.S., Japan, Latin America and Europe, the band is committed to creating their original music by combining western elements with local cultures for an unique fusion style. As the name indicates, Skyline's music boasts a distinctive metropolitan style and strong urban focus. The band also seeks to inject greater musical richness and cultural depth into the production to create some truly unique Jazz Fusion tunes. Meanwhile, it upholds the spirit of innovation to continuously explore and create various crossover and cross-genre fusion music possibilities.
In 2013, Skyline launched "Alchemy", its 10th Anniversary Tour, and created great resonance among fans. Thus the band decided to release its debut album "City Glide" in 2014. Since the album launched, Skyline has received wide acclaim from home and abroad for its diverse music elements and mature urban Jazz style. In addition to being nominated for the Best New Artist at Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA) in 2014, the band was among the world's top 12 bands at the 3rd Cotai Jazz and Blues Festival in Macau in the same year and then invited to perform live at the 2015 Java Jazz Festival, the world's biggest Jazz music festival.
Following its debut success, Skyline released its second studio album "City Colors" in 2016. Extending the concept of its first album “silhouette of the city”, the band created this sophisticated and melodic production rich in delicate musical arrangements and remarkable depth. Jazz virtuosos Gerald Albright, Paul Jackson Jr., Alain Caron are all featured in the production. In the same year, Skyline went on an Asia tour with 20 concerts in a total of 12 cities in Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and released its first live album and DVD/BD "2016 Asia Tour Live" in 2017.
Skyline released its third studio album “City Explorations” in 2018 - a breakthrough album marking the band’s 15th anniversary blending Jazz, classical and world music, containing the music elements such as traditional Chinese, Japanese, Indian, African, European (Middle Age), Flamingo, Tango, Latin, Chill-out, Avant-garde Rock with joint efforts by top-notch musicians as well as a Grammy-award-winning post-production team (Bob Ludwig, Craig Burbidge and Michele "Miki" Paciulli). The album is nominated as "Best Instrumental Recording Album" by Golden Melody Awards (GMA), "Best Jazz Album" by Golden Indie Music Awards, "Best Jazz Producer" by U.S. Independent Music Awards (IMAs) and won Silver Medal of Album, Band and Jazz Fusion from Global Music Awards. Also, the band partnered with Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO POPS) and classical-crossover music master Joe Che-Yi Lee to begin a groundbreaking "Symphojazz" tour blending Jazz with symphony orchestra in major concert halls around Taiwan, embarking an unprecedented music journey featuring original jazz, classical and world music. Right after the tour, the band released its 2nd live album and DVD/BD "Symphojazz". The album is nominated as "Best Crossover Album" by Golden Melody Awards (GMA) for Traditional Arts and Music and won "Best Live Performance Album" by U.S. Independent Music Awards (IMAs).
Skyline released its fourth studio album “City Silhouette” in 2021. After earning accolades for their last album, members of Skyline have continued to imagine the possibilities of jazz fusion. Three years of pondering those possibilities led almost naturally to the idea of going “back to the roots,” with the glory of jazz fusion of the past providing endless inspiration. Skyline wants to use the Western format of jazz music to present its roots in Taiwan, so as to take all parts of Taiwan’s traditional music (Aboriginal Ancient Tunes, Hakka Eight-Tones (Ba-Yin), Fulao Folk Songs) and wrap them into the jazz fusion style. Skyline hopes to bring a new vibrance and life to that traditional music. This isn’t just about inheriting and presenting music. Rather, it’s a matter of giving a concrete expression to the inner workings of a culture in order to create something that is at once retro and modern. To fully convey this album’s concept and techniques, Skyline invited the best of jazz fusion to join us for recording: members of Chick Corea Elektric Band (saxophonist Eric Marienthal and guitarist Frank Gambale) and quintessential master musicians from GRP (jazz drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and bassist Abraham Laboriel) along with otherrenowned musicians with a goal to produce a high standard and exquisite jazz fusion album that has international impact. The album is nominated as "Best Instrumental Album Producer" and "Best Instrumental Composer" by Golden Melody Awards (GMA) and won Gold Medal of Instrumentalist, Band and Jazz Fusion from Global Music Awards. The album release concert featured the award-winning, top-tier band Elephant Gym, Major in Body Bear and Tokyo Chuo-Line, marking a groundbreaking milestone for Taiwanese bands by pioneering a 4K global live stream. This innovative approach delivered a one-of-a-kind audiovisual experience and a fresh, cutting-edge audience engagement.
Skyline released its fifth studio album, City Voices, an ambitious project that aims to bring Taiwan’s unique blend of jazz fusion and pop aesthetics to a broader and more diverse stage in October 2025. The album bridges vocal and instrumental worlds, featuring an unprecedented collaboration with ten of today’s most prominent singer-songwriters — including Eve Ai, Matzka, aDAN, LINION, SherryZ, Paige Su, LEO37, PiA Wu, P.i.N, and Hao Ku.Grounded in jazz yet spanning a rich spectrum of styles — Pop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Gospel, Latin, Hip-Hop and Electronic — City Voices explores the boundless possibilities of cross-genre fusion. Nearly every track is presented in both local (Mandarin, Hakka, and Indigenous languages) and English versions, offering a dual experience that connects Taiwan’s cultural roots with a global sound, while defining a fresh and innovative direction for contemporary pop jazz.
Skyline has been actively connecting with the international jazz community, promoting cultural exchange between Taiwan’s original jazz music and the global jazz scene. Notable collaborations include performing with renowned American jazz saxophonist Eric Marienthal at the Taichung Jazz Festival in 2018, and serving as the featured band for American jazz pianist Brian Simpson during his 2017 Asia Tour in Taiwan. Skyline has also represented Taiwan at major international jazz festivals such as the 2015 Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia and the 2023 Jazz in July Festival in Singapore. Additionally, Skyline participated in jazzahead! - the world’s largest jazz trade fair and festival - in 2016/ 2025 and MU:CON - Korea’s largest music industry trade shows and conferences in 2025.
Skyline set its footprints across Asia (including Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Macau). It keeps absorbing a variety of music elements from around the world while promoting original music from Taiwan to the world. The band is also devoted to promoting Jazz music from Taiwan via online platforms and social media. It has more than 19,000 fans on Facebook, becoming the most followed Jazz band in Taiwan. It also has a multinational fan base on YouTube. By propelling Taiwan’s original music onto the international Jazz scene, it is Skyline’s wish that it is not the Skyline from Taiwan but Skyline of the world!
